WEEK 6 (2/2)

NEXT CLASSMONDAY, MARCH 10

Mandatory drafting workshop on the 1st essay.
Attending this writing workshop is required to submit a final copy.
The focus of this workshop will be on drafting your first paragraph (on theory).

Bring everything you need: final outline, books, laptop, class notes, etc.

1) OUTLINE: REVISE & FINALIZE YOUR OUTLINE.

Workflow to choose your thesis and to outline your 2nd paragraph:

1) Choose one relevant scene you understand very well. Base yourself on our class discussions.

2) Identify the one element of the immigration policy the author is discussing in this scene (this is the topic of your 2nd paragraph).

3) Determine the message the author is conveying in this scene (this is your thesis).

4) Split the scene into two parts. Most scenes we discussed in class can be divided into two parts. Typically, the first part contradicts the ideology typically promoted by superhero narratives, while the second part aligns with it.

2) OUTLINE: SUBMIT TO LEA YOUR FINAL OUTLINE.

IMPORTANT: An outline is a structured set of keywords or very short phrases (3-4 words) that provides a framework for your essay, like a skeleton structure. Only the thesis can be a fully developed sentence.

REMEMBER: Your outline and essay must engage with our class discussions.

This is the last process task. Congratulations!

4) DRAFT: YOU MAY BEGIN TO DRAFT YOUR 2ND PARAGRAPH ON SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE

IMPORTANT: Save your draft and final edited copies as two separate files for your final submission.

No AI is allowed during the drafting process. Only you are the expert in the theory. Only you have read the comic books. Only you participated in our class discussions. Only you can write in your unique style. For this specific assignment, using AI to draft will only make it worse; it will be vague, generic, repetitive, and not aligned with our class discussion.

You will be able to use AI to edit your draft.

In class, after the break, you will draft your 1st paragraph on the theory, as well as your introduction and conclusion.

Take care.
